About the Event
Join the Army Strategist Association for its inaugral Beach Read Event!
Whether its with your toes in the sand, by a mountain lake, or in between stops on the Metro, summer reading is best when it provides a sense of something new. To help you find your next summer book, ASA is happy to host its new Beach Read Event as a means to share a common reading experience across the wider assocaition. For our inaugural event, we're happy to host ADM (ret) James Stavridis as he discusses his new novel, 2034: A Novel of the Next World War. Pick up your copy now and invite your friends to join us for on August 12th from 7:30 - 9:00 PM (EST) for our discussion that is open to the public.
"2034 asks the reader evocative questions about how America will fight in the future and how it should organize itself. What happens in the book is not beyond the realm of possibility. Pearl Harbor, 9/11 and even COVID one could say were failures of imagination – a failure to imagine what could happen and therefore be unprepared for it. Today, imagination is a national security imperative. As such, Ackerman and Stavridis have fired a warning shot for what could happen if current and future administrations do not anticipate future challenges." - From the pubisher.
“War with China is the most dangerous scenario facing us and the world. Absent a strategic method to manage our differences, Jim Stavridis and Elliot Ackerman’s chilling novel presents a realistic series of miscalculations leading to the worst consequences. A sobering, cautionary tale for our time.” —Jim Mattis, General, U.S. Marines (Ret.) and 26th Secretary of Defense “A real page-turner, 2034 is a novel about a conflict we hope never happens. Drawing on their deep operational and diplomatic backgrounds, Admiral Stavridis and Elliot Ackerman have conjured a nightmare we desperately need to avoid. The novel is a cautionary tale for our times, and a reminder how quickly events can spin out of control—even before 2034.” —Robert M. Gates, Secretary of Defense 2006-2011
